Hidden Worlds – Workshop tour

On the workshop tour, young children have the chance to become familiar with the innovative techniques used by Ernst, including frottage – developed by the artist himself – and collage, and to discover interesting works, like the Histoire Naturelle portfolio, which are linked to the four elements: water, air, earth and fire. As they explore the traces left by different materials, existing but hidden forms will come to light, as in Ernst’s works. The youngsters will then try to reinterpret them, giving free rein to their imagination.

Max Ernst, a Leonardo of the 20th century – Guided tour

This guided tour is a journey through the life and career of Max Ernst, which focuses on his multidisciplinary and oblique approach. During the tour, great importance is given to the ideas and observations of the students, who have the chance to propose their own interpretive keys to Ernst’s works: each acquired notion is thus a personal achievement.

Beyond reality – Workshop tour

On the workshop tour, the exploration of inner landscapes and representation of places on the edge of the visible world, typical of Surrealism, become a window on a reality different from the one we live in. Through the technique of grattage, the superimposition of colour and random shapes, each student can interpret their own inner or outer world and express something of themselves.

Max Ernst, a man of many talents – Guided tour

The guided tour presents Max Ernst’s masterpieces on a rich itinerary featuring collages, graphic works and technical experiments. A remarkable synthesis of some of the most representative currents and avant-garde movements of the 1900s, his works trace the defining moments in 20th-century art. The German artist’s work involves the students through the endless interaction between painting, sculpture, philosophy, history, literature and science, making this a multidisciplinary tour.

Ernst’s lesson – Workshop tour

What can we learn from the work of Ernst, a visionary, aesthete, seeker of every kind of knowledge, and great experimenter with techniques? Following in his footsteps, the participants will try their hand at collage: the technique most characteristic of Max Ernst’s production. They will try to combine and rework pop culture, art history, literature and ancient myths, using words and images that they feel most represent them, to create a different, alternative and, why not, ironic reality.

A pivotal figure of the avant-garde, Max Ernst combined present and past, ancient and modern, art and science, incorporating in his works the endless ideas that enlivened the thought of the “short century”, and interpreting the spirit of his time in an extraordinary and unique way.
